Postfix expects to get back the username that was used to login. We are using the email address as a login username – so that mapping works. Only if John would try to send an email with a forged sender address then Postfix will see that it does not match his account and reject the email. Your mail.log would read something like.
- By the way: Postfix 2.10 has changed the behavior of the smtpd.restrictions altogether. If a restriction makes Postfix reject an email it will wait until after the “RCPT TO” line. Read the Postfix documentation for a description of the reasons for that change.
- By default, Postfix does not encrypt outgoing e-mails. In case of a man-in-the-middle-attacks, this can be a security issue. By setting the following parameter in /etc/postfix/main.cf, all outgoing e-mails (to any destination) will be encrypted with TLS.
When i run repiar permissions it changes my Read Write Execute permissions on /private/var/mail so i end up getting error logs stating that i have to set my permissions back 1777. In terms of using fink to install ports for OSX I find more dificult to use more i delv into unix. try fink install kdebase3. GNU files dont ever install for me when using fink darwinports. https://trakpowerful.weebly.com/blog/hotspot-shield-hack-mac. Ha trying to install courier-imap 3.0.3 just gives me a res_query problem i have yet to have figured out. Unix apps belong in thier correct default directories not some stupid directory like /sw/bin or /opt/local. Makes install ports by hand hard when you have like 3 or 4 different make versions installed on one system. Dev c++ closes after run. Get with the real install by hand. Atleast you'll have the pleasure of actually configuring something on your own that you know will work cus you did it on your own. haha several days trying to figure out why courier-imap wont configure has gotten me steamed. ok im done. MMM i guess on a good note just set the right user ids as well as group ids for post fix.

Hi, I've got a rather unusual problem.
System: Powerbook running OS X 10.3.3
I'm at a University where my only internet access for my laptop is via plugging into public network jacks in the library. I get a large volume of email and more or less require a POP client to handle it. Webmail is just too slow, can't take stuff offline, doesn't filter all the spam I get, etc. So I've got it all setup to run through Mail.app via POP3. Fine so far.
However, the university doesn't provide SMTP access via this network. https://heavenlyalex961.weebly.com/property-list-editor-for-mac.html. So I'd like to run Postfix and handle my own STMP. All network traffic needs to run through a proxy server to leave campus. They don't seem to be particularly concerned with what kind of legitimate traffic it is, so they're just trying to weed out file sharing etc. International bandwidth is expensive, that's fine with me. I'm currently running a proxy server called Authoxy that takes stuff on 127.0.0.1:8080 and sends it through the university proxy with authentication and everything configured right, to get around programs that don't handle the system proxy setting well.
I've got Postfix setup and it seems to be running ok, except that it doesn't know it needs to send things through the proxy. I've looked at the instructions here:
http://www.postfix.com/basic.html#proxy_interfaces
and it looks as if that's just for receiving mail. What can I set to let Postfix know it needs to send all outgoing mail through the proxy, either my local one or directly through the university? (If direct to the university, it would also need authentication information)
